March : Sant Medir

If you are a lover of sweets, you already have plans for March 3rd. In the Gracia neighborhood, this Barcelona festival takes place where sweets are the protagonists. According to legend, the beans of the ancient saint bloomed immediately after being planted. To honor this legend, a baker in 1830 made a pilgrimage in his honor in which he threw beans to the public during the journey. Nowadays, the beans have been replaced by sweets that are thrown at the people who have come to see the parade.

April: Sant Jordi

This popular festival is the ideal option for all book lovers, as the main streets are filled with book stalls. June 23rd is the night of Sant Joan, one of the most popular festivals throughout Catalonia. To celebrate the summer solstice, various bonfires are lit in which old objects are burned to symbolize the past. Barcelona organizes several bonfires in the most popular points of the city, and also organizes various fireworks shows for all fireworks lovers.
In addition to Sant Joan, the first weekend of June is the major festival of the Dreta de l’Eixample, one of the most popular in Barcelona. The most important event of this festivity is without a doubt the modernist fair, in which the streets of the neighborhood are dyed with decorations from that era.

July: Raval and Poblesec Festivals

The Raval major festival takes place during the weekend before July 16th. They are one of the most popular major festivals in Barcelona thanks to their great repertoire of cultural activities. Music, parades of giants and bigheads, popular meals, dances, and castellers are some of the most popular proposals of the major festivals of Raval and Poblesec. It is the ideal occasion to enjoy Catalan tradition and culture.

August: Sant Roc and San Bartolomé

From August 11th to 16th in the Gothic Quarter takes place the Sant Roc festivals, a tradition that originated in 1589. These festivals have one of the most peculiar traditions, and it is that custom dictates that the neighborhood dogs participate in them, so activities such as the dog show are held.
At the end of the month, around August 24th, the festival of the Sants neighborhood takes place. These Barcelona festivals bear some resemblance to the Gracia festivals, as the neighbors also take care of decorating the streets with themed ideas.
