NEIGHBORHOOD
Sant Antoni is a Barcelona district located between the city center and Montjuïc mountain, with Avinguda del Paral·lel as its main axis.
For decades, Paral·lel was the center of Barcelona’s nightlife, full of theatres, music halls and cafés frequented by cabaret artists and bohemians — a vibrant mix of eroticism and anarchism.
When the street was officially opened in 1894, it was already home to a growing entertainment industry.
Today, only three historic theatres remain: Apolo, Condal and Victoria, and the city council has purchased the old Arnau Theatre with plans to turn it into a new cultural venue as part of the project to revive Barcelona’s own Broadway.
